  • Police in Utah County were out in full-force this morning patrolling for distracted drivers. Police were looking for anyone talking on their phones, texting and driving, and doing other things like eating breakfast and putting on make up.

Within a few hours Utah County Police had already pulled over around two dozen distracted drivers.

This isn’t the first time Utah Police and the Utah Highway Patrol have done a distracted driver crack-down. Just two weeks ago the Utah Highway Patrol in Davis County were on patrol for distracted drivers and people with equipment violations.

The way that UHP finds distracted drivers is that they have a spotter inside of unmarked raised vans. Once they see a driver on their cell phone they radio it in to the patrol officer who then pulls the driver over.

Most of these patrols have been happening between 9 am and 12 pm.

According to the state of Utah:

5,748 distracted driver crashes occurred in 2016 in the state, which resulted in 3,303 injured persons and 27 deaths.

Please remember when driving, put down your phone. If you absolutely need to make a call or send someone a text please pull over. You don’t want to make the mistake of getting into an accident or possibly killing someone because you were texting and driving.

However, if you do find yourself with a distracted driving citation or any other kind of citation such as a DUI, give me a call I can help.
