A drunk driver in a Maserati sports car caused a head-on crash on I-15 in Weber County early Saturday morning.
The DUI collision occurred around 1 a.m. in the northbound side of I-15 near Riverdale Road, in Ogden.
The vehicle was driving over 80 mph and dodged several cars before causing a head-on collision with a woman driving a SUV.Upon collision the SUV flipped over the barrier into southbound traffic. A witness, Jordan Jaeger pulled over and immediately called 911.
According to Jaeger:
“Suddenly I see sparks to the right of me and I see a car run into the wire barrier and flip over, roll over upside down,” Jaeger said.
“She was pinned,” he recalled. “Her head was pinned in between the seat and the mangled up front end of the car. So I held her hand and I told her it’s OK, don’t move. Help’s on the way.”
According to authorities the woman driving the SUV had several injuries including deep cuts and a shattered pelvis. The drunk driver in the Maserati only sustained cuts and bruises.
The drunk driver, Gary Shook was arrested on the scene and charged with a few DUI felonies according to the Utah Highway Patrol. Shook has had multiple DUI arrests in the past.
Investigators think that Shook traveled a few miles on I-15, dodging several cars before crashing into the SUV.
