Alex Wubbel, the University of Utah Nurse who was arrested after she refused to cooperate on the illegal blood draw without a warrant has reached a settlement with the Salt Lake City Police Department.
The agreement will pay Wubbels $500,000 and settle all possibilities of legal action concerning the arrest.
Wubbels plans on using a portion of her settlement to help people request body cam footage from their arrests. She also plans on making a donation to the Utah Nurses Association and will become a part of the End Nurse Abuse campaign from the American Nurses Association.
In case you need a refresher the arrest of Nurse Wubbels happened on July 26th, when Officer Payne demanded a blood draw from a patient who was unconscious and not under arrest. There also had not been a warrant issued for the blood draw either.
Payne’s argument for the blood draw was that he had “implied consent” to get the blood draw. Payne had reason to believe that the unconscious driver had been drinking and wanted to collect a blood sample to see what the driver’s BAC level was.
