  • UTAH DUI Law DefenseWith Utah DUI Law about to get even tougher with the legal Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) Limit dropping from 0.08% to 0.05%. I thought I would give you all a brief history on the strict DUI Law Utah has had.

Law enforcement officials in Utah arrested around 30 people per day in 2014 for the crime of driving under the influence of alcohol. While this may seem like a high number of arrests for DUI, in 2009, that number was almost 43. DUIs in the state continue to drop even though the state’s population is growing. In fact, since 2009, the number of arrests for DUI has fallen almost 36 percent.

When people are arrested in Utah for DUI, though, the penalties they face are some of the toughest in the country.

According to an analysis by WalletHub, Utah ranks seventh in the country and the District of Columbia for the strictest laws for DUI.

In Utah, someone who is convicted of DUI will spend at least two days in jail. If he or she is convicted of a second offense, then it is 10 days in jail. Anyone facing a third offense will be charged with a felony. Also, prior to license reinstatement, anyone convicted of DUI is required to have an ignition interlock installed on the vehicle he or she drives.

In addition to an average of 30 drunk driving arrests each day last year, there were also almost five accidents a day that involved an intoxicated driver. Two deaths occurred on average each month from those accidents.

Those who are facing DUI charges need to begin working on their defense as soon as possible. Simply waiting and hoping for the best is not a good alternative.
