  • A man was arrested recently in Orem, Utah after signing for a package that contained $100,000 worth of drugs.

Last Friday, 29-year-old Manteo Soto of Price was arrested for suspicion of distributing, offering, or arranging the distribution of a controlled substance.

Recently Utah County Police received information from a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent that a package containing 534 grams of ecstasy was shipped from Germany and was meant to be distributed into hundreds of pills.

There were two packages of ecstasy that were stuffed inside of two teddy-bears then stuffed into a small box which was sealed and addressed to a P.O. Box located in Orem.

Soto was the person who signed for the package and was arrested shortly after by Utah County Authorities.

The charges have been officially filed by Utah County Prosecutors. It is unknown if Soto has retained a Criminal Defense Attorney.

Defending A Spectrum Of Drug Charges

Whether you have been charged with possession, distribution or trafficking of illegal or prescription drugs, the consequences of a conviction could negatively impact your life for years or even decades. Felonies for sales or manufacturing offenses carry mandatory minimum prison terms in many cases. In addition, these penalties can also be greatly increased for offenses occurring within 1,000 feet of a hospital, park, school or other places where children gather. This is true even if the drugs were used or sold in a private home that is within 1,000 feet of one of these locations.

Fight To Get Your Felony Charges Reduced

As a component of Utah’s new prison reform laws, effective October 1, 2015, simple possession charges which were once prosecuted as a third degree felony may now be charged as a class A misdemeanor. The state may still charge a felony if the prosecutor determines the amount in possession was likely meant for distribution. If you are facing charges that include intent to distribute, it is critical to have an attorney who will fight aggressively to reduce the charge to a misdemeanor, if possible.
