  • Utah DUI First Timers May Get a “Second Chance”

    June 29, 2017 | Blog Drunk Driving
  • Salt Lake City First DUI Defense Lawyer in UtahThere might be a chance for first time DUI offenders in Utah to have a “second chance”. There is a law that was just recently passed in Texas where DWI and DUI offenders can have their conviction sealed from the view of the public.

This law mostly applies to first time DWI and DUI offenders who have a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.140% or less. It also only applies drivers that were not allowed in a crash or a DUI where someone was injured.

This is great news for first time DUI defenders.

By having their DUI conviction sealed it should help people who are trying find employment or keep their job

With a DUI conviction it becomes very difficult for Salt Lake City and Utah workers to retain their jobs or get new jobs.

This new law is really helping out first time DUI offenders in Texas land or retain employment. The hope is that this law will soon get adopted into Utah law as well. This could give first time offenders an opportunity to seal their conviction.

A law like this might also help lessen the blow from a possible increase in Utah DUIs due to the upcoming law that is lowering the legal (BAC) concentration for drivers from 0.08% to 0.05%.

While the new 0.05% BAC law for Utah drivers is very controversial and strict, a law to give first time DUI defenders an opportunity to seal their conviction could serve as a small compromise from Utah Law Makers.
